I am originally a South Indian percussionist (Mrdangam, Tavil, Kanjira), moved to Canada in late 70's, studied percussion theory and Gamelan music. I was influenced by western contemporary composers, instrument builders and improvisers. I transposed south Indian drumming techniques and vocabulary to other hand drums and built instruments. I also built melodic instruments based on the Indian 22 shruti system (22 interval octave), such as the metallophone, marimba, bamboophone, tubeophone and others. More recently I built the shruti stick a 6 & 12 string, electric instrument that combines the zither and prepared guitar. I am interested in creative music and a personal voice.
