My name is Ziv Bar Ilan. I'm the Founder and Head Designer of Zoybar.

Interests:
I love the Web almost as much as the real world, one of the rare places where a crowd can act as an intelligent being. I’m a huge believer in online communities. I’m fascinated by Wikipedia, all disciplines of design and any form of expression.
I believe in empowering the individual with non hierarchical production platforms as a path for equal opportunities.
How can we practice these theories in physical reality, freedom, creativity and the exchange of information and culture.
Marc Ribot and I:
Marc invited me to their sound check before the performance of cobra (by John Zorn).
My favorite part is when every one became quiet when marc took the kaoss Zoybar guitar for the first time. (about minute 2:06)
I have a vision of a electric guitar with both single and duel coil taps with phasing switches too . Must have midi to drive my guitar synthesizer . The Kaos controller is wild and would be an interesting marrige for the guitar solution .
For the Guitarviol :
I would assume a a double neck would not be feasible due to radius needed for the bow to hit the individual strings and not all .
Youtube has some nice videos on this instrument as well as the ones at the " Togoman " website .
I'm a Jazz / Blues artist primarily ( although I play just about anything from Country Western to Hawaiian music ) along with Rock & Rock-A-Billy .
My current electric guitar ( Godin LGXSA ) really pleases me , but it is not quite all I want in the electric guitar side with out a whammy bar .
Why ?
As a harmonica innovator and power player . I make whammy like sounds on my harmonica ( blues type 10 hole diatonic ) that curl your toes :)
These sounds are part of my expressive personal signature sound and I feel I'm not quite getting that part out if my guitar . The midi sounds I get are marvelous , even it's acoustic side is very pleasing for a solid bodied guitar , but the lack of a whammy is one less FX I am missing in my quiver of textures I want .
I am so intrigued by this concept . It looks like this is the new beginning of a new age of people seeking a common interest to improve life and the quality of life via music . My salute goes out to you !
I have a midi guitar and guitar synthesizer and an acoustic electric too . Recently I sw the Guitarviol

and saw the wildest and most intriguing instrument that can be midi as well and then I find you : Wow !
I hope that I will find my solution here in my next instrument .
We have a lot of respect for the traditional manufacturers that are making great instruments.
Zoybar is not trying to replace any of them.
The "problem" with touch-style instrument from an open source point of view is the accuracy in the fretted neck and scale that could only be relevant to the specific instrument.
The idea behind the open source hardware is to provide (at the first stage) a basic kit (platform) that enables each person to experiment and customize its instrument by his own preferences budget and creativity.
This project could be a great experiment of new decentralized R&D models in the hardware manufacturing scene, and this up growing community would have a great part of making it realize.
I think this kind of discussion can continue in the community forums.
Great to have you on board,
Ziv.
Have you ever thought of creating an open source touch-style instrument kit? If not, I would love to hook you up with my friend Mar Warr (http://www.warrguitars.com). As an open source community leader (http://claimid.com/whurley) I think it would be awesome to see an open source touch-style instrument made available. Congrats! This is awesome.
